Bright Safaris Uganda runs a charity that is dedicated to providing residential care to vulnerable children who are orphaned, neglected, abused and underprivileged. We ensure that the childrens' physical, emotional, social and spiritual development is nurtured by consistent encouragement. Our goal is to instill within each individual a model of love, safety, purpose, productivity and service to others.

We love and serve orphaned and at-risk children. We help keep families together. We create opportunities for strong, sustainable communities and we are committed to transforming the lives of orphaned children.

How it Started

Bright Orphan Project was established in 2001 by a Ugandan native who had grown up an orphan himself. He developed the project in an effort to give back to the spirit of his adoptive father. Inspired by the life he was given after his biological parents’ death, he started taking children off of the street into his home, providing them with food, clothing, and education. He was a teacher by profession and turned his home into a school to educate the orphans.

In 2004, he passed away and the project disintegrated. It lay dormant until 2015, when it was brought to the attention of his granddaughter aisha that he had left a will asking for her to carry on with the project. She brought the will to her brother, Meddy. Together they took on the Bright Orphan Project while maintaining their respective career paths.

Current Day

Between 2015-2018, Aisha and Meddy had taken in 204 children between the orphanage in Kampala and a school for vulnerable children in Mbale. Sustaining the project by selling the crops from their garden, their own income, and charitable donations, the two have been able to provide the children with basic food, clothing, and education. As the project grew, Meddy decided that it was time to create a for-profit safari company to more sustainably support the project.

With a passion and talent for guiding tourists on excursions through the stunning country of Uganda, supported by his tourism degree, Meddy established his own safari and excursion company. Bright Safaris Uganda is devoted to guiding individuals and groups on safe, eco- friendly, once-in-a-lifetime experiences across many national parks and game reserves that Uganda has to offer. Some of the profits go to funding the Bright Orphan Project.

Purpose of the School

When we open the door to an education, we unlock the future for children. Education is the difference between failure and success. It is the difference between poverty and plenty. Without an education, jobs are hard to come by, and without a job, a mother or father cannot feed their children. When parents cannot support their families, the family unit often breaks up, and children end up on the streets or in orphanages. We start to solve the orphan crisis by educating as many orphans as we can.
