Seven Day Primate Trekking Safari

Seven days, one wonderful African week trekking with gorillas and chimpanzees. Prices are $2,050 per person.

Itinerary

  • Day 1: Travel to Kibale National Park

    You will start your drive to western Uganda through the beautiful green scenery and tea plantations. You will have a chance to interact with local people during the walk through the market after lunch. Then it's just one more hour's drive to Kibale Forest where you will be able to spot some monkeys, birds and baboons on your way to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay. Several lodging options are available according to your budget.

  • Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking in Kibale National Park

    Today you will have your breakfast at the lodge and prepare for chimpanzee trekking. Kibale National Park is home to around 13 primate species. While at the park, you will be able to see many types of monkeys like the wonderful red colobus, grey-cheeked mangabey, black-and-white colobus, L’Hoest's monkey and the amazing chimpanzees. The trek is a 3 - 4 hour walk through the tropical rain forest with an experienced guide. After lunch you will visit Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary to spot some monkeys and bird species. This walk takes you through grasslands, coffee plantations, and small communities where the locals are very enthusiastic to meet visitors.

  • Day 3: Travel to Queen Elizabeth National Park

    After breakfast, we head to Queen Elizabeth National Park, driving through the Crater Lakes region of Kabarole for a mini game drive as we enter the park. We check into Park View Safari Lodge where we have lunch and relax for awhile. In the afternoon, we take a boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel to view the wildlife from close quarters as they cool off along the shores of the channel that connects Lakes George and Edward. We return to the lodge in the evening for dinner and our overnight stay.

  • Day 4: Game Drive and Travel to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

    The day begins early as we start the game drive in the Kasenyi plains in search for wildlife which includes the buffaloes, kobs, warthogs, elephants, waterbucks, lions, hyenas, and on lucky days, leopards among others. After the game drive that takes about 2 – 3 hours, we go back to the lodge for breakfast, check out and drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park through the Ishasha sector where tree-climbing lions can be seen according to the luck of the day. We have lunch en-route and later check in to Buhoma Community Rest Camp or Ruhija Gorilla Mist Camp for dinner and overnight.

  • Day 5: Gorilla Trekking

    After breakfast, we walk down to the visitors’ center for registration and briefing before starting the gorilla trekking. The exercise may be strenuous walking up steep hills under sometimes muddy conditions. While the hike is intense, the opportunity to see gorillas is well worth it. This activity may take about 2 – 8 hours, depending on how easily the gorillas can be found. After locating the gorillas, your guide will advise you on how to behave while you spend your time with them. Later we come back to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

  • Day 6: Travel to Lake Mburo National Park

    After breakfast, we check out and drive to Lake Mburo National Park, passing through the rolling hills of Kabale and Mbarara, with lunch en-route, arriving in the afternoon where we check in to Eagles’ Nest. Then later in the afternoon, we go for the boat cruise on Lake Mburo to see wildlife and birds. We later come back to the camp for dinner and our overnight stay.

  • Day 7: Nature Walk and Travel to Kampala

    The day begins early as we go for a morning nature walk in search of wildlife that includes buffaloes, zebras, warthogs, impalas, eland (Africa’s biggest antelope), topis, bushbucks, reedbucks, waterbucks, oribis, bush pigs and leopards among others. This normally takes about two hours. This is one of the best walks we have in Uganda. We come back to lodge, have breakfast and afterwards travel back to Kampala with lunch en-route arriving later in the afternoon. We check into our place of accommodation for dinner and overnight or we go straight to the airport for your flight home depending on your flight schedule.
